Lyrebird Foundation debuts with an exhibition match spotlighting women in cricket

To mark International Women’s Day, the Lyrebird Foundation will celebrate its official launch with a landmark T20 cricket match at Bradman Oval on 6 March. The exhibition match will highlight diversity, inclusion and the future of women’s cricket, as the Lyrebird Foundation XI takes on an Ethan Indigenous XI.

The Lyrebird Foundation XI will feature an international lineup with players from countries including the Netherlands, England, Afghanistan and Australia, demonstrating the Foundation’s commitment to elevating female athletes on a global scale.

The Lyrebird Foundation has been established to promote gender equality, break down barriers and expand opportunities for women in cricket, particularly from developing nations. With a board featuring cricket legends Meg Lanning and Geoff “Henry” Lawson, the Foundation is committed to levelling the playing field at all levels, from players on the field to leaders in management, marketing and media.

A key focus for the Foundation is developing an International Academy for Women’s Cricket, which will provide elite training, leadership development and advocacy for gender equity in the sport.

Ethan Indigenous, the major sponsor of the event, is an Indigenous-owned company dedicated to empowering Aboriginal communities through education and employment opportunities in the information-technology sector. Their social-impact programs are bridging gaps, challenging stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive Australia.

The T20 match will commence at 1:00 PM on Thursday, 6 March.
