Our name, inspired by the Australian Lyrebird, known for its ability to mimic a wide range of noises, reflects our mission to amplify the voices and talents of women in cricket across all aspects of the sport – from players on the field to leaders in management, marketing and media.
Based in Australia, but with a global reach, the Lyrebird Foundation stands at the forefront of a movement to revolutionise women’s cricket. We believe in the power of sport to drive social change, promote gender equality, and empower women and girls from all backgrounds.
1. Education and Training – We establish and operate a Centre of Excellence, providing world-class training and educational programs for women in cricket.
2. Advocacy – We actively promote and advocate for the recognition of women’s cricket at all levels of competition, both in Australia and internationally.
3. Opportunity Creation – We facilitate and promote opportunities for women to participate in cricket, not just as players, but with various professional roles within the sport.
4. Research – We conduct and support research into the physicologicial and psychological aspect of women’s participation in cricket and sports in general.
5. Inclusivity – We are committed to supporting women from all backgrounds, including First Nations women, those facing socio-economic challenges, women with disabilities, and women from developing countries.
6. Scholarships – We provide financial support and scholarships to enable broader participation in our programs and the sport.
At the Lyrebird Foundation, we envision a future where gender is no barrier to success in cricket. We’re working tirelessly to close the gap in pay, resources, sponsorship, and recognition between men’s and women’s cricket.
Our dedicated team, guided by diverse experienced board of directors, is passionate about making a lasting impact. We collaborate with partners, sponsors and cricket organisations worldwide to create sustainable change as an international leader in advancing women’s participation in sport.
